OEM vs. SDV
Many customers ask questions concerning compatibility/quality of replacement components used by SDV. The following are a few points that may assist you in explaining commonly asked questions:
· SDV uses cable manufactured by an OEM that also manufactures cabling for many other Endoscopic Video Manufactures. In fact, a company that manufactures more cable for use in medical equipment than any other cable OEM, manufactures SDV cable. · SDV uses adhesive seals that withstand Steris® and Sterrad® sterilization. · SDV cable does not contain large amounts of cotton filler. Many OEMs use cotton filler in their cable to increase the outer diameter of their finished product. This cotton filler may absorb fluid thereby increasing the severity of fluid invasion. · SDV uses original OEM replacement components wherever possible. When original replacement components are not available, SDV reverse engineers the OEM components and then manufactures replacements that are equal to or superior to the original component. · SDV adheres to the OEM’s design whenever possible. SDV will not redesign your equipment. · SDV does not outsource cable manufacturing. All SDV cables are manufactured in house thereby reducing the overall cost of the end product. Most OEMs do not manufacture their own cable assemblies. Ask your rep who makes their cables for them. · The electronic sensing equipment (CCD) within the endoscopic cameras are not manufactured by endoscopic OEMs. Instead, the OEM purchases an existing product and simply repackages it for medical use. SDV has access to these same CCD manufactures. Therefore, the OEM’s electronics are readily obtainable. · OEMs formerly employed many of SDV’s employees. SDV is very familiar with OEM repair procedures. · SDV works on endoscopic video equipment regardless of manufacture. Our knowledge of the industry allows us to employ techniques that have proven successful in one OEM’s design to overcome weakness in another OEM’s design. SDV employs this practice only so far as to not deviate from the original design of the unit.
